New Trier went undefeated in the CSL South dual meets during the regular season, and the Trevians look to continue their supremacy at Saturday’s conference meet at Evanston, where the state meet will be held later this month.

The Trevians are going after their seventh league championship in a row. Evanston won the title in 2005.

“It’s a good conference, and there will be good competition,” New Trier coach Mark Onstott said. “We are looking to swim well and continue our preparation.”

New Trier closed out its conference schedule Friday with a 138-47 win over Maine South. The Trevians, who went 10-0 in dual meets this season, won all 12 events, including diving, where Jordan Sacks totaled 316.20 points.

Seniors Grant Smith, Sam Skinner and Max Grodecki swam on both the first-place 200-yard medley relay (1:41.73) and the first-place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:10.60). The 400 free foursome’s time was nearly five seconds under the state cut.

Smith also won the 50 free (22.23).

Onstott said he wasn’t sure of his lineup for Saturday. Most likely, it will be different than the one he submits for the sectional at New Trier on Feb. 18.

The coach still believes there will be several good races to watch at Evanston, including the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke, as well as all three relays.

New Trier and Glenbrook South both have top-10 times in the medley relay. According to Evanston’s website, the Trevians have the best times in all three relays.

Grodecki, a returning state champion, has the top clocking in the 50 free at 20.89.

“For the guys who are rested and shaved, this is the exciting part of the season,” Onstott said of this weekend. “This is where they get to see all the hard work pay off.”
