WRESTLING: Barrington qualified six wrestlers to next weekend’s State Meet while Mundelein’s Matt Ornoff (138) and Deerfield’s Lenny Bloom (145) and Artie Bess (220) all earned sectional championships in their respective weight classes.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Trailing by five at intermission, No. 23-ranked New Trier played much more patiently on offense in the second half and it led to a 52-45 win over Evanston at Northwestern’s Welsh-Ryan Arena. Northwestern-bound Maggie Lyon scored 19 of her game-high 23 points in the final two quarters.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Terrell Farmby’s steal and two free throws with 29.7 seconds to go carried Evanston to a 55-52 overtime win against No. 14-ranked New Trier at Northwestern’s Welsh-Ryan Arena on Friday. The loss was the third in a row for the suddenly struggling Trevians.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS: There was the expected as well as a couple minor surprises during Thursday’s Niles North sectional. Two-time defending state champion Carmel remained on target for another state title, winning the sectional with 151.760 points, while Stevenson mustered 146.875 points to finish as runner-up.
