Retsky’s unprofessional behavior

Updated: August 13, 2012 7:07AM

It’s amateur hour at the Glencoe Park District. It takes a long time to build a reputation and a short time to dismantle it. The behavior of the new board leadership is an embarrassment to our village. Joe Keefe was right to call out President Retsky for her unprofessional violation of the Open Meetings Act. For Retsky to state her surprise when Van Arsdale submitted his resignation is the height of disingenuousness. Her vendetta to get rid of him was clear to all who have been watching the machinations of this dysfunctional Board. Van Arsdale’s house was nothing more than a fig-leaf to intimidate and eliminate him. It’s disappointing that Van Arsdale did not stand up for his rights and let these bullies push him around. He was doing a good job and should have fought for his reputation. Trent Cornell’s record as president suggested more wisdom than he has shown in supporting Retsky (he was the swing vote in her election as president) and Lerman. It’s time for our village to stand up to these goings on—and tell these commissioners—especially the majority—that we expect competence and dignity from those who represent us.
