Glencoe’s small-minded comissioners

Hilary Lee is one of Glencoe’s exceptional public servants. She has contributed so much over so many years and has always responded with intelligence and leadership when asked to serve. Her commitment and capacity to grow is a remarkable strength. To read about the small-minded approach to governance exhibited by a couple of her fellow Park District Commissioners is indeed disappointing. It is the Commissioners who make Park District policy. They need to be educated. Penny wise and dollar foolish is not a strategy befitting Glencoe. The public expects much more from its Park District leadership especially after the disappointing process which led to the Community Center.

If the handling of Lee’s request to attend a professional conference is reflective of this Park Board’s mindset, it becomes appropriate for our village to consider eliminating the an independent Park District and making it functions a department of our village government. Now that would be a way to save some money.
