Glencoe residents with either brickbats or bouquets for Comcast can toss them, figuratively, during a public hearing Thursday night on whether the contract with the cable TV provider should be renewed.
The hearing will take place during the Village Board meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber in Village Hall, 675 Village Court. The vote on the contract is expected in May.
Thursday's Village Board agenda also includes Board discussion of an ordinance to allow commercial uses in the village's Metra station. The village zoning commission April 4 recommended by a 6-0 vote, after a public hearing, that the Village Board pass a temporary use amendment for a coffee cart in the 1891 depot. The Glencoe Park District held an intimate reception in memory of long-time art and early childhood instructor, Sylvia Roth, March 15 where a plaque remembering her service was added to an enrichment classroom at the Takiff Center. Friends, family and fellow Park District instructors were in attendance to celebrate the life and contributions of Roth, a dedicated mother and teacher.
Roth taught young children at the Park District for 15 years. With a personal love of art and culture, she developed "Introduction to the Arts," an art appreciation program for kindergarten students that is still offered today. Over the years, she shared with the youngsters she taught a joy for art masterpieces created by both famous artists and by small hands working with finger paints or other media. The classroom was previously endowed to the Park District by Nancy and Daniel Pollack.
Nancy Pollack taught with Roth for many years and wanted to recognize her wonderful contributions to the Park District by adding a dedication to the room plaque. The sign now reads, "In memory of Sylvia Roth who Artfully Enriched the children of Glencoe."
