Caucus town meeting Tuesday

The Glencoe Village Caucus and Glencoe School Board Caucus will present their slates for Village Board, Park Board, Library Board and School Board at a Town Hall Meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Central School’s Young Auditorium. Glencoe residents who are registered voters may attend this one-hour scheduled meeting, and nominate opposing candidates if they so wish.
The Town Hall meeting will provide a chance to meet the candidates and to sign petitions to put their names on the ballot for the April 2013 election. Outgoing officials also will be recognized for their years of service to the village, and are expected to speak.
The Glencoe Caucus system was created to avoid the rancor of contested elections. Caucus committees interview and select candidates to serve on the Village Board, Park Board, Library Board and School Board.
The village caucus selection committee has chosen Village trustee Larry Levin as its village president candidate. Zoning Commission Chairwoman Barbara Sadow Miller was picked for Village Trustee, as was Dale Thomas, a lawyer at Sidley Austin’s Chicago office who has also been active in Glencoe government, including service on both the Golf Clubhouse Task Force and the Golf Advisory Committee.
The third Village Board candidate is Scott Pearce, who has run marketing, sales and client service divisions for several corporations, and recently co-founded a business coaching consulting firm.
Park Board candidates are Steven Gaines, the president of Glencoe Youth Services, and Seth Palatnik, a former Chicago lifeguard who has served on the district’s Lakefront Advisory Group.
Library candidates: Joel Shoolin, who served from 2002 to 2010, Kathy Doyle, who has a degree in Library Science, attorney Michelle Gooze-Miller and incumbent Tracey Meyers.
Glencoe School Board: 19-year veteran Eddie Chez was tabbed for another four years.
Chosen for a second term is Marc Glucksman, Ph.D., chairman of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department of Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago.
Nancy Shaw, an executive marketing coach who recently took over as Board president from Chez, was chosen for the one available two-year term.
Other district candidates: Julie Ackerman, who has a third-grader and fifth-grader, and is a patent lawyer who graduated cum laude from Northwestern University Law School after graduating with honors in chemistry from Colgate. Steven Fradkin is president of the Corporate and Institutional Business Unit of Northern Trust.
The Caucus is funded by residents’ private contributions. Caucus donations have dropped, and funds are needed for printing and mailing.
