Woman dies after being pulled from canal in Evanston

EVANSTON — A woman died after authorities pulled her out of a canal in Evanston Saturday morning.

The woman allegedly jumped into the canal near Main Street and McCormick Boulevard about 10 a.m., according to a release from the Evanston Fire and Life Safety Services.

With the help of witnesses, Evanston authorities working with the Skokie Fire Department were able to find the woman, who was then taken in critical condition to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.

The woman — identified as Andia Ymeraj, of the 8500 block of Skokie Boulevard in Skokie — was pronounced dead at 12:26 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
