Thief breaks into public works ‘road kill’ freezer

Glencoe authorities found Aug. 16 that a thief had gone to a lot of trouble to break into the Public Works yard at 1900 Frontage Road, but only laid hands on the freezer used to temporarily store roadkill and dead pets.
“Somebody got a surprise when they popped that open,” Glencoe Public Works Director Dave Mau said Monday.
The thief industriously cut through a tall fence to enter the yard, then severed the hasp of a lock on a small storage building that contained the freezer.
“I hope they didn’t think it was a meat locker,” Mau said.
If so, somebody may have had a very bad barbecue last weekend.
