A Glencoe man has been indicted by a Lake County grand jury on reckless homicide charges.
John Warsaw, 63, was charged with reckless homicide and two counts of aggravated DUI for a fatal accident in Lincolnshire that occurred Jan. 13.
Warsaw is accused of striking a vehicle head-on. A passenger in that vehicle, Shruti Phandis, 26, of Wheeling, died five days after being transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Phandis had just gotten married the day before the crash.
Warsaw was driving in the wrong lane of traffic, went into a ditch and then a median where he took out a street sign in Route 22 in Buffalo Grove, police said.
Then he allegedly continued east on Route 22 and south on Route 21 and crossed the center lane line just south of Aptakisic Road. Warsaw, behind the wheel of a Honda, drove southbound in the northbound lane when he collided with a Toyota Corolla and pushed it into a Jeep Grand Cherokee behind it. Phandis was a front-seat passenger in the Toyota.
Warsaw is due back in court for arraignment July 5. He is free from custody after posting $30,000 bail.
