Wilmette’s Canning heads RTA advisory group
Wilmette Village President Chris Canning has taken on another role, after being unanimously elected as chair of the Regional Transportation Authority’s citizens’ advisory board.
Canning has been a member of the board, officially known as the Regional Citizen’s Advisory Board, since 2010, when he was appointed to represent suburban Cook County. He will serve as president for two years.
The advisory board is made up of citizens throughout the RTA’s six-county region and provides advise to the Authority’s own board on how its policies and programs affect communities in the region.
In a June 18 press release Canning, who is also president of the Northwest Municipal Conference, said he looked forward to working with the board’s new and returning members.
RTA Executive Director Joe Costello stated in the same release, “I am very excited about what (board members) will be able to contribute under Chris Canning’s leadership.”
