Glencoe Caucus seeks delegates

Updated: March 3, 2012 8:27AM

The Glencoe Village Caucus system is a traditional, nonpartisan form of government which allows citizens of Glencoe to participate directly in their local government. The Glencoe Caucus is seeking candidates for both the Village Nominating Committee, which is responsible for identifying the best candidates for Village President, Village Trustees, Park District Commissioners, and Library Board Members, and the School Board Nominating Committee, which identifies well-qualified candidates to serve on the Glencoe District 35 School Board as well as candidates to represent Glencoe on the New Trier High School Board Caucus. That last body slates candidates to serve on the New Trier School Board.

Caucus delegates are needed for each Nominating Committee in almost every precinct and the process has begun. Pursuant to the Glencoe Caucus Plan, each of Glencoe’s eight precincts is represented by three residents on the Village Nominating Committee, and by two residents on the School Board Nominating Committee, all of whom serve four-year terms. Precinct elections are held every two years so that members’ terms are staggered. To be eligible to serve as a Caucus member, you must be a registered voter. For more information about the Glencoe Caucus, or to obtain an application, please see the Caucus website at glencoecaucus.org. Applications must be submitted by Friday, February 17.

If you have additional questions about our Caucus process, its purpose or the commitment involved, please contact the Nominating Committee Co-Chairs. The School Board Nominating Committee Co-Chairs are Rick Rosin (rrrosin@comcast.net or 847-786-4017) and Loree Sandler (lbsandler@aol.com or 847-835-2730). The Village Nominating Co-Chairs are Catherine Cooper (cjcooper374@gmail.com or 847-835-7460) and Pat Eden (pjeden@comcast.net or 847-835-7157).

Glencoe’s caucus system relies on the voluntary contributions from village residents in order to complete our mission to source, evaluate and slate capable individuals for village leadership positions. To support the Village Caucus system, residents may contribute any amount at any time.

Supporters of the process can mail a check payable to the Glencoe Caucus Advisory Council, c/o Dan Stucka, Treasurer, 501 Drexel Ave., Glencoe, IL 60022.
