Police in northwest suburban Mount Prospect arrested a man Wednesday for shaking his infant son, causing serious injuries to the boy.

Mount Prospect police said Julian Santos, 21, was alone watching his 6-month-old son Jan. 5 when the boy began crying uncontrollably. Santos, frustrated, shook his son until he was unconscious, police said.

Santos drove his son to Northwest Community Hospital and he was later transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of serious injuries caused by being shaken, police said. The state Department of Children and Family Services took the infant into protective custody.

Santos was charged with aggravated domestic battery and with violating an order of protection issued in October prohibiting unlawful contact with the baby, police said.

Bail was set at $15,000.
