The three year-old Rice Leadership Committee of Children’s Home + Aid held its first Benefit – the Annual Chef’s Tasting - on Jan. 28 at the Woman’s Club of Evanston, 1202 Chicago Avenue, Evanston.

The party included cocktails, a chef’s tasting, the Bids for Kids Auction and Dancing. There were a myriad of fine restaurants plus stellar libations by established purveyors and a Northwestern student quartet during cocktails, plus ance music by Josh and the Empty Pockets following dinner. The food and beverages were all donated and the corporate sponsor was Turtle Wax, Inc. Some of the food purveyors were Bonsoiree, O’Neil’s and Revolution Brewing. A crab mornay, a Flemish beef stew and sea food gumbo were among the menu selections. There was a champagne fountain provided by Wirtz Beverage plus other elegant donated libations.

The cause is inspiring as since 1907, Children’s Home + Aid has operated a residential treatment center for children in Evanston, Illinois. The Daniel F. and Ada I. Rice Child + Family Center treats and re-integrates traumatized children and youth ages six to fifteen back into family settings. The goal of the Rice Center is to provide children with services to treat behavioral challenges and to facilitate stable transitions to birth, foster or adoptive families.

The young committee included Dan Zagorin and John Balanoff of Chicago. From the north shore were Carin Frucci of Winnetka, Lee Nykaza and Kelcy Vallas of Wilmette and Joanne Zolomij of Evanston. Also, Northwestern University students were represented by Kathryn Anderson and Tomekia Simeon.

The Rice Leadership group hopes that this premier fund raiser will become a tradition as the monies serve a truly worthy cause. The guest list numbered in excess of 200 and $50,000.00 was raised at the benefit.
