A new partnership among the national Foundation for Women’s Cancer, Ovarian Cancer Hope Organization (OCHO) and Bakers Square restaurants is off to a strong start, having completed its first fundraising campaign.

Bakers Square held special fundraiser events at its Libertyville, Gurnee, Wilmette, Naperville and Woodridge restaurants, donating a percentage of sales to the Foundation for Women’s Cancer. Bakers Square also collected donations at all 46 of its restaurants. $13,163 was raised to support the Foundation for Women’s Cancer during the month of September in honor of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. The check presentation ceremony was held at the Bakers Square restaurant location in Wilmette, 200 Skokie Blvd. on Oct. 18.

OCHO organizer Lynda Smith, who is an ovarian cancer survivor, said “We are looking forward to continuing our successful partnership and building on it in the coming years.” OCHO seeks to offer hope and support to ovarian cancer urvivors and their families and supporters.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Foundation for Women’s Cancer, formerly the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation, is dedicated to funding research, expanding public awareness, education and training to improve the prevention, early detection and optimal treatment of gynecologic cancers.

“We are so grateful to both OCHO and Bakers Square for their commitment and investment in the lives of those impacted by a gynecologic cancer,” said Karen Carlson, executive director. “We look forward to a very long and prosperous relationship with both organizations as we continue onward in our quest to ultimately defeat cancers unique to women - one pie at a time!”
