Nearly a thousand guests gathered at the Hilton Chicago on Saturday, Dec. 10, to join the Medical Research Institute Council as they celebrated their 60th anniversary at this year’s annual Children’s Ball,
Diamond: 60 Years of Brilliance. The Ball also celebrated at total of more than $101 million inspired by MRIC-related philanthropy since the group’s inception in 1951; $2 million of which was raised this past
year as part of the MRIC 2011 Campaign.
Co-chairwomen Beth Gross and Susan Pluss selected the theme of Diamond: 60 Years of Brilliance in recognition of the brilliant researchers and scientists of the MRIC-supported Children’s
Memorial Research Center.
The evening consisted of entertainment by the Michael Lerich Orchestra, a silent auction, dining, dancing and most importantly, funds raised for pediatric research. This year’s Ball also celebrated
the 20-year partnership between the MRIC and Children’s Memorial Hospital. To mark this important occasion, the MRIC recognized P.D. Block, a well-known Chicago civic leader and life board member at Children’s, for efforts to bring the MRIC and Children’s Memorial together in 1991.
During the Ball, 2011 co-chairs Beth Gross and Susan Pluss announced and welcomed 2012 Ball co-chairwomen, Linda Fisher and Debbie Lewin. Current MRIC Chair Seth Prostic also took the opportunity
to welcome new MRIC Chair Lesli Falk. Special thanks were given to all of the MRIC Children’s Ball sponsors, including Champion Sponsor Harris Private Bank.
