Glencoe School District 35 will welcome a new face to the halls of South School as Kelly Howard takes over as principal at the Kindergarten - Second Grade elementary on July 1.
Howard, a former assistant principal with Schaumburg School District 54, will pick up where previous principal Dr. Molly Cinnamon left off.
Cinnamon’s departure was announced earlier during the 2011-12 schoolyear, with District 35 Superintendent Cathlene Crawford saying back then the resignation involved personal and family reasons.
Several months later, “we’re very pleased to have Kelly Howard joining us,” Crawford said. “She comes with a great deal of experience working with a K-2 perspective and we are glad to have her on board.”
Howard is familiar with the area having graduated from Lake Forest College in 2004 with a B.A. in Communications and is currently in the process of completing her Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership.
Prior to assuming administrative responsibilities in District 54, Howard taught in Highland Park School District 112 where she was a first grade, kindergarten and Reading Recovery teacher.
Going into the selection process that began at the beginning of the year, Crawford, along with a selection committee of administrators and school board members knew precisely what they were looking for in the new principal.
After narrowing the pool down to four finalists, the committee felt confident they had the right choice in Howard.
“Her warmth and organization along with her experience with the curriculum and her previous experience with that age group certainly were things that set her apart,” said Crawford.
